Redlands Tigers History

The Redlands Tigers have been in the Brisbane Grade competition for over 120 years. Starting off as Woolloongabba, before moving to Langland’s Park as Eastern Suburbs District Cricket Club in the 1930's. By 1970 Bottomley Park had become the home and fortress of Easts.  During 1995 Easts moved to its current home at Wellington Point becoming East-Redlands.  The club now plays in the Queensland Premier Cricket Competition under the established band of Redlands Tigers.

Our No 1 field, Peter Burge Oval, was named after our best known player who had a remarkable career with Queensland, making 91 first-class appearances in a career that spanned from 1952-53 through to 1967-68. He captained Queensland on 28 occasions and was named in the state's “Cricket Team of the Century”. The Burge family has a long association with the club and indeed the Redlands as Peter's grandparents once owned Whepstead House at Wellington Point.

Fred Kratzmann was a long standing member in the Redlands Cricket area. He was instrumental in the early stages of cricket development within Wellington Point and our No. 2 oval shares his name.

Ron Field was a local councilor who helped provide many cricket facilities in the Redlands. Ron loved cricket and his work and efforts have been recognised by having our No. 3 oval named after him.

Collectively the three ovals have won the Premier Cricket “Best Grounds Award” 6 out of the last 7 years. The practice facilities boast 10 synthetic and 4 turf practice wickets and the newly renovated players change rooms are the envy of all clubs.

Spectators can choose between the spectacular views of the Peter Burge Oval Grandstand or the fully air-conditioned club house. The canteen offers a fine selection of food and cold beverages. Drop by and try one of our world-famous toasties or enjoy a cold one or two from the licensed bar.

Redlands Tigers is very proud of its history and the legacy created via players progressing to represent Queensland and Australia. Former greats including Peter Burge, Jeff Thomson, Greg Ritchie, Stuart Law & Jimmy Maher. More recently, Shane Watson, Damien MacKenzie, Ryan LeLoux, Greg Moller, Alex Kemp & Simon Milenko all represented Redlands Tigers at the next level.

Our commitment and passion to the growth of womens cricket in the Redlands remains a high priority. The 2019/20 season will see Redlands compete in the Womens 1st Grade compeition for the first time and builds on the success of the Tigers 2nd Grade side over the last three seasons. Under-age female opportunities through Junior & Youth Heat Leagues present exciting opportunities and collectively paint a promising picture for the road ahead.
